BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College men's volleyball team wrapped up their 2009 Endicott Invitational by splitting a pair of games with SUNY Institute of Technology and Ramapo College. The Gulls record sits at 12-6 (7-0 NECVA) after going 3-1 in this weekend's events. Endicott defeated the SUNY IT Wildcats 3-0 but then dropped a tough five-game set to the Ramapo College Roadrunners, 3-2.
The Gulls were able to take the first game from the Wildcats 30-20 as Endicott jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The second game was settled by the same score, 30-20, as the Gulls continued to attack on all cylinders. The third and final set was decided at 30-22 as the Gulls swept the Wildcats and looked ahead to their next matchup.
Freshman Brent Feldman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) led the Gulls with 13 kills and a .556 hitting percentage. Classmate Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) dished out 27 assists while another freshman, David Lowe (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led the Gulls with 12 digs while Endicott as a team had 11 total blocks.
After a break between games, the Gulls picked up right where they left off by beating Ramapo in the first set, 32-30. Ramapo responded to the side change however as they took set two, 30-25. The teams would split the next two games with the Gulls taking game three, 30-25, and Ramapo taking game four, 30-21. In the final deciding game, the Roadrunners would prove too much as they took the final set 15-12.
The Gulls were led by 25 kills from A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, N.Y.) and 53 assists off the hands of Ben Foster (Penfield, N.Y.). Dan Coleman led Endicott with 22 digs. The Gulls had 16 total team blocks in the match as well.
The Blue and Green return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Springfield College for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 p.m.
