Nighthawks clip Gulls, 3-1

BROOKLINE, Mass. - The No. 14 ranked Endicott College men's volleyball team suffered only their second NECVA defeat of the season on Tuesday night as the Newbury College Nighthawks defeated the Gulls 3-1 in Brookline, Mass. The Gulls fall to 19-10 overall while the Nighthawks improve to 21-10.

Down by four in the fourth game it looked as if the match was going to a game five, but that is when Newbury mounted their comeback. Sophomore James Beck (Havre de Grace, Md.) was the sparkplug for the Nighthawks, guiding his teammates to the victory. Junior Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, Mass.) led Newbury with a game-high 21 kills while junior Joshua Aberly (Palatine, Ill.) recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 defensive digs. Beck finished the game second on the team with 15 kills.

Junior A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, N.Y.) led the Gulls with 18 kills while junior John Emery (Westford, Mass.) followed with 13 kills. Senior Matt Carroll (West Hartford, Conn.) added a team-high nine defensive digs in the loss.

The Gull will return to action on Thursday night when they return home to face NECVA power Rivier College at 7:00 p.m. Newbury honors their three seniors on Thursday evening in their final regular season game against Wentworth at 7:00 p.m.
