Dudley, Mass. – The top-seeded Nichols College men’s soccer team defeated eighth-seeded Endicott, 2-0, in the quarterfinal round of the The Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Michael J. Vendetti Field. The Bison improve to 15-3-1 and advance to the semifinals where they will host fourth-seeded Salve Regina at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.  Endicott concludes its season at 6-10-2.

\#Chris Serpa\# (Bristol, R.I.) looked to give the Gulls an early lead in the eighth minute with a direct kick that rolled past the Bison wall and appeared to elude Nichols keeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.), but it went just wide of the far post.

The Bison had a great opportunity in the 26th minute when Brendan Whitson (Auburn, Mass.) got his head on a corner kick and directed to the foot of Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.), but Capitanio chipped it high from the just in front of the net.

Less than two minute later, however, Capitanio put the Bison on the board with his seventh goal of the season. Freshmn Pat Gaumond (Holden, Mass.) passed ahead to Capitanio and the senior carried the ball up a few yards before lofting it in past Gulls keeper \#Daniel Higgins\# (Kingstown, R.I.).

David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.) gave the Bison a 2-0 lead with a driving header in the 53rd minute. Classmate Ryan Wytrych (Feeding Hills, Mass.) countered a Gulls clear attempt after a failed Nichols header and corralled it to Matt Nash (West Springfield, Mass.). Nash served it high into the box for Johnson, who leapt into the air and drove the ball down into the net for his first goal of the season.

Hamilton made a diving stop on a \#Brian Connery\# (Boxford, Mass.) penalty kick in the 64th minute to keep the Gulls off the board. The Bison keeper came up big again in the 73rd minute, tipping an \#Eric Trant\# (Stoneham, Mass.) shot from the far sideline up over the crossbar to deny the Gulls.

Hamilton finished with nine saves in his 10th shutout of the season, while Higgins stopped eight Nichols shots.
