Gulls double up Salve Regina in regular season finale

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior Nick Cosco (Londonderry, N.H.) scored three goals and classmate Brandon Dube (Danvers, Mass.) dished out three assists to lead Endicott College to a 10-5 win over Salve Regina University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

Junior goalie Eric Hagerty (Sudbury, Mass.) made 13 saves in goal for the Gulls (13-3, 8-1 TCCC), who won their third-straight game and remained a perfect 14-0 all-time against Salve Regina. Sophomore Brendan Rooney (West Newton, Mass.) potted three goals for the Seahawks (9-4, 5-3 TCCC), who lost their third-straight contest.

The Seahawks were down a goal at halftime at 3-2 but tied the game just 1:35 into the third period on senior Ryan Doherty's (Newton, Mass.) second goal of the afternoon and seventh of the season. The Gulls answered with five goal of their own to take an 8-3 lead they would not relinquish.

Junior Brad Lipkvich (Madison, Conn.) put Endicott in front 4-3 with his 14th of the season and second of the game at 8:55, and goals by senior Mike Amato (Medford, Mass.) at 5:47, Cosco at 1:10, sophomore Jack Curtis (Chelmsford, Mass.) with 33 seconds left in the third, and sophomore Andrew Pochebit (Portland, Maine) nine seconds into the fourth capped the Gulls run. Rooney scored two of the next three goals for the Seahawks to make it a 9-5 game before junior Jonathan Prentice (Chelmsford, Mass.) closed the scoring.

Rooney opened the scoring with his 37th goal of the season at 10:30 of the first period, but a pair of goals from Cosco at 9:28 and another with 17 seconds gave the Gulls a 2-1 lead at the end of one. Lipkvich stretched the Endicott lead to 3-1 with his 13th goal of the season at 42 seconds into the second period. Doherty answered with the first of two goals on the afternoon at 7:17 to cut the Seahawk deficit to 3-2 entering halftime.

The Gulls outshot the Seahawks 46-36, won 13 of 19 face-offs, and held a 38-32 edge in ground balls. Senior goalie Brian Walker (Marshfield, Mass.) made 16 saves for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks close the regular season on Saturday with a game at New England College at 1 p.m. The Gulls have now completed their regular season and will wait to see who they will host in the first round of TCCC Playoffs.
