BIDDEFORD, Maine - The trio of Brandon Dube (Danvers, Mass.), Nick Cosco (Londonderry, N.H.) and Jack Curtis (Chelmsford, Maine) accounted for 10 goals as the nationally-ranked Endicott College men's lacrosse team defeated the University of New England, 12-4, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Thursday afternoon. The \#15 ranked Gulls improved to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in TCCC play. The Nor'easters suffered their third consecutive setback to drop to 5-6, 0-5 in conference games.
Five different players scored in the first quarter, as Endicott established an early 5-1 advantage.
After the two teams each scored once in the second frame, the Gulls distanced themselves from UNE in the third period, reeling off five straight goals in the opening 6:50 of the period to take an 11-2 lead and put the contest away. Cosco and Curtis each scored twice during the surge.
Cosco contributed four goals and one assist to lead the way for Endicott. Dube had a five-point afternoon with three goals and two assists, while Curtis added a hat-trick. Face-off specialist Joe Gugino (West Hartford, Conn.) was brilliant, winning 16 of 18 draws and scooping up 11 ground balls.
Eric Hagarty (Sudbury, Mass.) played the first three periods in goal to record the win making five saves. The Gulls held a 42-28 advantage in shots and doubled-up the Nor'easters in ground balls (54-27).
Dylan Thomas (Plesantville, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists for UNE. Michael Woods (Kittery Point, Maine), Luke DiFiore (Gloucester, Mass.) and Steve Smith (Walpole, Mass.) rounded out the Nor'easters' goal scorers with one tally apiece.
Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) registered 10 saves for the Nor'easters, who head to Roger Williams University for a 3:30 game Saturday.
Endicott plays a road contest at Wentworth Institute of Technology at 1:00 p.m. that same afternoon.
