CCC Champion Gulls Lead Field Hockey Weekly Awards

CCC Champion Gulls Lead Field Hockey Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its final weekly awards on Monday afternoon and, rightfully so, Endicott had two players honored for their performance during the CCC field hockey tournament.

Taylor Matties (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was named as the CCC Offensive Player of the Week and Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) earned CCC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season. The Gulls went 2-0 this week and captured their second consecutive CCC title and a trip to the NCAA tournament.

Matties, a senior midfielder, continued her trend of late-game championship heroics. For the second straight year she scored in overtime of the CCC Championship game to deliver a 2-1 victory for Endicott. It was her sixth goal of the season and her second of the game-winning variety. In the Gulls' semi-final game, Matties kept the pressure on Gordon by firing seven shots, four of them on goal.

Her classmate Teixeira was on her game during the 2012 CCC field hockey tournament, holding each opponent to just one goal and helping seal a pair of dramatic 2-1 overtime finishes for Endicott. She made ten stops in the CCC Championship game against Nichols, enduring a barrage of pressure, particularly in the first half. She also made three saves against Gordon in Endicott's semifinal victory and posted a 0.93 goals against average for the week.

Endicott will play their first round tournament game on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Utica College. Live Stats, Video, and Audio are all available for the game.
