Gulls Take Two More CCC Field Hockey Weekly Awards

Gulls Take Two More CCC Field Hockey Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In what has become a common theme this year, Endicott field hockey seniors Hannah Thornberg (Oakland, Maine) and Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) each earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards, announced Monday by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

Thornberg was named CCC Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, while Teixeira earned her third CCC Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Thornberg capped an incredible regular season with three goals in two games as the Gulls went 2-0 this week with two conference victories. Thornberg tallied twice in Endicott's 5-1 win over Western New England, then was one of four goal scorers as the Gulls edged Nichols, 4-3 in their final regular season game of the year. Along the way this year, Thornberg has set the record for Endicott goals in a season (21) and has become the Gulls all-time goals and points leader.

Teixiera made 13 saves this week, 11 of them in a tight matchup against Nichols in which the Gulls had to come back from a 2-0 deficit for the win. In that game, she stopped Nichols and CCC top scorer Emily Widdison twice, once on a one-on-one attempt and another time on a chip shot effort. Earlier in the week, Teixeira made two stops and allowed just one goal in a 5-1 win over WNE. She posted a 2.00 goals against average and a .765 save percentage this week.

The Gulls are 13-4 this season and, with a 9-1 conference record, have earned the top seed in the CCC tournament, where they will try to defend their 2011 title. Endicott will host Gordon on Thursday at 6:00 pm on North Field.
