Top Seeded Gulls Start Title Defense Against Gordon

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Defending champions Endicott have earned the top seed for the 2012 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey championship, which begins with semifinal matchups on campus sites the afternoon of Wednesday, October 31.


The Gulls (13-4 overall) earned the top seed in the conference tournament after completing the regular-season conference schedule with a 9-1 record in CCC play.

They will host the #4 seed Gordon College (6-13, 3-7) in one semifinal, while #2 seed University of New England (10-8, 7-3) will host #3 seed Nichols College (12-7, 7-3) in the other semifinal. Both matches are tentatively scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.

The Gulls are 2-0 against Gordon so far this year, beating them in both of their CCC matchups. Gordon has yet to score a goal against Endicott this year, as the Blue and Green have emerged with wins of 5-0 (in Wenham on Sept. 15th) and 3-0 (in Beverly on Oct. 13th. The Gulls are 11-3 all-time against Gordon, and have not lost to the Scots since 2007.

Endicott is making their 14th consecutive appearance in the CCC tournament since joining the conference in 1999. Last season they defeated UNE in overtime to earn the program's first CCC title and trip to the NCAA Division III tournament.
