NCAA TOURNAMENT: Women's Soccer Falls To No. 13 Williams, 2-0

GRANTHAM, Pa. — The Endicott women's soccer team was defeated by No. 13 Williams College, 2-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Shoemaker Field on Saturday afternoon.

Endicott's CCC-leading defense was on full display in the first half, as it limited Williams to just three shots on net, courtesy of all-conference defenders Angelina Venditti (East Lyme, Conn.) and Carly Matthews (Suffield, Conn.), both of whom would play the full 90 minutes in the match.

After the scoreless first half, the Ephs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute via a goal from Brianna Wright (Norristown, Pa.), her fourth of the fall.

The Gulls mustered up a few solid scoring chances of their own in the second half, one of which came on an Erin Wood (Hanson, Mass.) shot attempt from just outside the 18, forcing the Williams goalkeeper to make a leaping save in the 53rd minute.

With just four minutes remaining, Williams scored its second goal of the match to secure the win.

All-CCC first-team goalkeeper Rosalina Caliri (East Greenwich, R.I.) stood tall against the threatening Williams offense, saving a total of nine shots on goal in the match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2013.
  • Caliri's nine saves are a career-high.
  • Along with Venditti and Matthews, Gillian Magnier (Shelburne, Vt.) and Callie Neils (Brentwood, N.H.) played the full 90 for the Gulls.
  • Lily Miller (Warwick, R.I.) provided an offensive spark off the bench, as she led the Gulls with a team-high two shot attempts.
