Endicott Opens Season With 3-0 Win Over Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - The Endicott women's soccer team got the 2022 campaign underway in winning fashion on Thursday night, defeating the Lasers of Lasell University 3-0 on the road. After the two teams played a scoreless first half, it was the Gulls that posted three goals in the second half to secure the season-opening win.

Julia Matus (East Greenwich, R.I.) opened the scoring for the Gulls just over 10 minutes into the second frame when she converted a penalty kick at the 55:25 mark of the half. She then doubled the lead for the Gulls less than 10 minutes later when she buried a feed from Samantha Klimas (North Andover, Mass.) at the 65:05 mark to give Endicott a 2-0 advantage.

Freshman Ella Morgan (Salem, Mass.) capped the scoring for the Gulls when she scored her first collegiate goal with 8:55 remaining on the clock.

Senior keeper Jacqueline Ruggiero (Dedham, Mass.) was credited with two saves in the shutout, which was the fourth of her career.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls have won their last four season-openers, dating back to 2017.
  • Endicott out-shot Lasell 22-6 on the night, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • This was the second multi-goal match of Matus' career (3 goals on 10/5/21 vs Salem St.).

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-0) plays host to Montclair St. on Sunday at noon, while Lasell plays host to Brandeis at 1 PM on Sunday.
