Endicott Falls to UNE 1-0 in CCC Championship

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Endicott women's soccer team came up just short in their 2019 post-season run, falling to University of New England (UNE) 1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday. With the setback, the fifth-seeded Gulls finish the season at 10-8-2 overall after a fantastic run to the championship match.

After playing a scoreless opening half, the two teams remained locked in a defensive battle mid-way through the second half until the Nor'Easters would break the tie. Caroline Wilson's first goal of the season came in the 72nd minute for the hosts and would prove to be the game-winner for UNE.

The Gulls finished the match with 12 shots, six of which were on goal. Leading the way was senior Hannah Pesci (Windham, N.H.), as she finished with three total shots, two of which were on goal. Juniors Jaymie Caponigro (Swampscott, Mass.) and Gabriella Prisco (West Haven, Conn.) finished with with two shots and one shot on goal each.

Senior keeper Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) made three stops on the day in net as the Gulls limted the Nor'Easters to 11 total shots, four of which were on goal.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • This was the 14th appearance in the CCC championship for Endicott since joining the conference in 1999, as the Gulls now have a 9-5 record in title matches.
  • The senior class of Larissa Cade (Middlefield, Conn.)Madeleine Cheney (Bow, N.H.)Catherine Elkas (Holden, Mass.)Brianna Knight (Andover, Mass.)Elizabeth Masucci (Norwell, Mass.), Hannah Merritt (West Hartford, Conn.), Pesci, Claire Shields (Loudonville, N.Y.), and Wentworth finished their careers with an overall record of 45-21-10, which includes three CCC semifinal appearances and today's runner-up finish.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (10-8-2) sees their season come to a close, while UNE (13-5-2) will advance to the NCAA DIII Tournament.
