BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's soccer team fell to Wheaton (Mass.) 2-1 on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Hempstead Stadium.

With the setback, the Gulls fall to 1-3-3 while the Lyons improve to 6-1-0 with the win.

Wheaton got on the board first as the visitors scored in the 17th minute. Freshman Jaime Rattenni (West Greenwich, R.I.) scored her fifth of the season when Kaylee Sye (Acton, Mass.) lifted a cross into the box from the right wing. Rattenni was able to flick the ball past Endicott's Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) and into the bottom right corner to give the visitors the 1-0 edge.

The Lyons were able to extend to a 2-0 advantage in the 56th minute when Chloe Troy (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored her second goal of the season on a header after Aymara O'Brien-Pappalardo (Easton, Conn.) crossed from the left wing into the box.

Endicott would pull within one late when Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) notched her second of the season in the 80th minute. The senior was able to gather a bouncing ball and settle it quickly before firing a ball on net from the right side of the box. The shot beat Wheaton's Alexa Barbagallo (Bridgewater, N.J.) to her right to bring the Gulls within one. That would prove to be all the scoring as Endicott would come up just short by a 2-1 final.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Wheaton became the first opponent to score more than one goal in a match against Endicott this season.
  • Pernice's goal was the 23rd of her career, as she now sits three shy of entering the top 10 in Endicott history.
