Springfield Tops Women's Basketball, 71-59
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team fell to Springfield on Wednesday night, 71-59, in non-conference matchup inside Blake Arena.
Aleah Bracey (New Bedford, Mass.) led the way with a career-high 20-point (7-17 FG, 3-4 FT), three-rebound effort from the floor.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) stuffed the stat sheet as she dropped 14 points (5-13 FG, 3-3 FT), nine rebounds (seven defensive, two offensive), five assists, and a steal in 31 minutes of play.
Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) and Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls with seven points each.
After trading baskets in the opening minutes, the Pride went on a 6-0 run before Bracey connected on a jumper to bring the Gulls within three. A couple buckets from Bracey and a layup for Wallin cut the deficit to four.
The Pride outscored the Gulls 18-12 in the second period, heading to half with a 39-28 lead.
Endicott went on a 12-6 run (4:24) to start the third period. Shinney sparked the run after knocking down a three, while Bracey connected for three-straight three pointers to cut the deficit to three.
The Pride repsonded by knocking down a pair of freebies to go back up by eight with under a minute to play in the stanza.
Trailing by 11, Mazzotta got things going in the fourth with a layup (49-58) to start the period. The Pride responded with six straight points, extending their lead to 14. A three from Wallin and a few baskets from Bracey were not enough for the Blue and Green to complete the comeback, as Springfield shot 53.7% from the field in their 71-59 win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Bracey posted a career-high in points.
- Shinney recorded a season-high in assists.
- Mia McGarrity (Ridgefield, Conn.) made her first career start.
- The Blue and Green posted 11 bench points as opposed to Springfield's two.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (1-2) hosts Babson this Friday for the home opener in a 6 PM non-conference contest. Springfield (1-1) takes on Middlebury in the Chuck Resler Tournament this Friday at 3 PM in Rochester, N.Y.
