BEVERLY, Mass. — The top-seeded Endicott men's soccer team fell to fourth-seeded Gordon, 3-2, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals on Tuesday evening at Hempstead Stadium.
Tied 2-2 late in the contest, Casey Torres (Atlanta, Ga.) potted the eventual game-winning goal for the Fighting Scots in the 83rd minute despite a furious comeback bid by Endicott.
Tonight's match was even in nearly every category including shots (16-16), saves (5-5), and corner kicks (GC 5-4).
Meanwhile, in net for the Gulls, Kyle Rosa (Norton, Mass.) recorded five saves in the loss (4-2-1).
BEYOND THE BOX
- Joe Mepham (Sudbury, Mass.) and Austin Wickham (North Granby, Conn.) both found the back of the net for Endicott in the contest.
- Mepham recorded his 10th goal of the season at the 13:38 mark, while Wickham notched his second career goal at 63:48 to even the score up at 2-2 with Endicott down a man on the field.
- The Gulls were forced to play down after All-Conference First Team selection Charles Badji (Dakar, Senegal) received a red card at the 60:20 mark.
- Chase Gwynn (Apoka, Fla.) capitalized on the free kick opportunity - as a result of the red card - with his 18th goal of the season via a booming shot into upper left 90 at 60:22.
- Gwynn, who also scored at 79:04 in the matchup, had several quality scoring chances on the night including a header off the crossbar at 19:10 and a low hard shot off the left post at 45:20.
- Gwynn's last scoring chance was the difference, however, as it created the point-blank scoring opportunity in front of the net for Torres.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (8-7-2) will await a potential at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament next week. Gordon (11-5-2) will travel to No. 3 Salve Regina on Saturday, November 6 to take on the Seahawks in the CCC Championship at a time to be determined later.
