Neary’s Game-Winner, Endicott's Back Line Lift Gulls Over Coast Guard, 1-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Endicott junior back Shay Neary (Trumbull, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute of the contest to lift the men's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory over Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday night.

Seniors Diego Slobotzky (Mexico City, Mexico) and Shintaroh Itoh (Nerima, Toyko, Japan) generated the scoring opportunity for the Gulls late in the non-conference matchup when Slobotzky split two Coast Guard defenders and slipped a pass to Itoh on the left side of the box.

Itoh then sent a cross to the far post to Neary, who buried a one-touch shot past Bears' goalkeeper Jake Sorenson (Oakdale, Conn.) for his first of the year with just under six minutes left in the game.

Neary's goal held true as the Gulls only allowed one corner and one shot (blocked) down the stretch to secure the victory.

Endicott junior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) made two saves in the win to improve to 5-1-1 on the season and also collected his fourth clean sheet in a row.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• With tonight's win, Endicott has tied the all-time series against Coast Guard at 1-1. 
• The last meeting prior to today's match between the two programs came on November 12, 2012 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament Semifinals held at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.
• Endicott has not allowed a goal in its last 375:43 of action (four-plus games).
• During that stretch, the Gulls have only let up 30 shots (12 saves, all by Weinstein).
• Endicott's back line allowed a season-low four shots in tonight's victory. The previous season-low was five against Utica on September 5.

FOR THE FOES

• Sorenson (1-4-0) made three saves in the loss.
• Freshman Patrick Palermo-Re (Manassas, Va.) had Coast Guard's only shot on goal in the contest.
• The Bears have not scored a goal since their 5-1 loss to Johnson & Wales University on September 9, a scoreless stretch that spans 373:32.
