BEVERLY, Mass. – In their 2018 season opener, the Endicott men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-4 defeat at the hands of Empire 8 opponent No. 19 Stevens Institute of Technology.
Led by a 13-save effort in the cage by Stevens junior goalie Carson White (Downingtown, Pa.) and three-game outputs by both junior midfielder Eric Radbourne (Guelph, Ont.) and sophomore attacker Brendan Monteleone (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), the Ducks were able to garner the road victory.
Stevens thwarted Endicott's efforts over the opening five minutes of the first quarter despite the Gulls being able to take the first five shots of the game and force the Ducks into two failed clear attempts during that time span. Once Stevens went on offense, the Ducks scored the first goal of the game, Monteleone from Radbourne, and the second goal of the game, Radbourne unassisted, to take a 2-0 lead after the first quarter.
Stevens outscored Endicott 3-1 in the second quarter thanks to two goals by senior attacker Tommy Dawson (Virginia Beach, Va.) and another by senior midfielder John Boutureira (Eastchester, N.Y.) to take a 5-1 advantage into halftime. Endicott's lone goal of the first half came off the stick of sophomore attacker Will Clark (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) with an assist to sophomore midfielder Andrew Soucy (Andover, Mass.).
In the second half, Stevens would stretch their lead thanks to a pair of goals apiece from senior attacker Bryan Rogers (Branchburg, N.J.) and freshman attacker Ryan Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y.). Endicott would pour in three goals over the final 15 minutes as Soucy, sophomore attacker Elijah Bard (Agawam, Mass.), and freshman attacker Jack Sutherland (Sudbury, Mass.) all found the back of the net.
Defensively for the Gulls, Sutherland and junior defensive midfielder Hayden Souza (West Hartford, Conn.) each had three caused turnovers and a pair of groundballs. In goal, junior Patrick Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) stopped nine shots in the season-opening loss.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott dropped to 3-7 all-time against Stevens and has now lost their last three meetings.
- Gulls junior Matthew Faucher (Western Springs, Ill.) led the team with five groundballs.
- Endicott lost the faceoff battle with junior Derek Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) winning 6-of-13 attempts.
- As a team, Endicott went 10-of-15 on clear attempts and committed two penalties for 1:30 minutes while allowing only one man-down goal.
FOR THE FOES
- Junior defenseman Daniel Crotty (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore defenseman Alec Caseiro (Bridgewater, N.J.) both had a team-high three caused turnovers.
- Faceoff man Nicholas Carnovale (Fairfield, N.J.) won 9-of-15 attempts with six groundballs with freshman midfielder Shawn Coulter (Schwentksville, Pa.) scooping up five loose balls.
- As a team, Stevens went 12-of-23 on clear attempts and committed six penalties for a total of 4:30 minutes while allowing only one goal man-down.

Endicott (0-1) travels to Liberty League rival Union (N.Y.) on Wednesday, February 28 for a 4:00 PM showdown. No. 19 Stevens (2-0) hosts NEWMAC opponent Springfield on Saturday, March 3 at 1:00 PM.
