No. 13/14 Men’s Ice Hockey Blanks Stonehill, 5-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 13/14 nationally ranked Endicott men's ice hockey team erupted for four goals in the second period en route to a 5-0 win over Stonehill College on Friday evening at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

With the victory, the Gulls (11-2-2) extended the longest active winning streak in Division III to 11 straight games, and also bumped their home record to 6-1-0 on the season. Meanwhile, the loss for the Skyhawks puts their record at 4-10-3 overall in 2016-17.

Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alberta) guided Endicott offensively with a pair of goals in the second period (single-game career-high), while Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.), Joseph Slovak (South Yarmouth, Mass.), and Lloyd Hayes (West Newbury, Mass.) all found the back of the net as well. Olsson was credited with the game-winner on his ninth tally of the season at the 5:32 mark of the second before Slovak and Bowes rattled off three consecutive goals to put the game on ice.

Endicott goaltender Mark Specia (Ringwood, N.J.) improved to 2-0-0 on the season with 26 saves. Billy Palmer (Cranston, R.I.) took the loss (4-9-3) on 37 saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 2-0-1 in the all-time series versus Stonehill.
  • The Gulls are ranked No. 13 in the latest D3hockey.com poll, and No. 14 in the latest USCHO.com poll.
  • Bowes also won a game-high 15 faceoffs.
  • Carter Horwitz (Tustin, Calif.) blocked a game-high four shots (tied with two student-athletes from Stonehill).
  • John Carricato (Ridge, N.Y.) dished out a game-high two assists, which also established a new single-game career-high for the sophomore forward.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Skyhawks are 1-5-3 on the road this season.
  • Thomas Mahoney (Suffern, N.Y.) and Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Mass.) both tied Horwitz with a game-high four blocked shots.

Endicott (11-2-2) travels to Becker on Thursday, January 19 for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at 7:40 PM. Stonehill (4-10-3) visits Franklin Pierce University this Saturday at 7 PM.
