Montagnino's 35 Points Power Men's Basketball Past Southern Maine, 100-80
WATERVILLE, Maine — The Endicott men's basketball team defeated Southern Maine, 100-80, in Friday evening's Colby Classic matchup at the Margaret M. Crook Center.
Marcus Montagnino (Gloucester, Mass.) turned in a career-high 35 points on a ridiculous 83.3% shooting from the field (15-18 FG, 4-4 FT, 1-1 3PT). He also picked up six assists, four rebounds, and a steal in the win.
Elijah Kinney (Nashville, Tenn.) picked up another double-double with his 15-point (4-8 FG, 7-7 FT), 13-rebound effort, while Caden Sullivan (Franklin, Mass.) also logged a career-best 17 points (2-3 3PT) paired with three rebounds, an assist, and a block.
AJ Forte (Peabody, Mass.) rounded out the double-digit scorers with his 14 points (5-12 FG, 4-7 3PT) from off the bench.
After Endicott led by as much as 14 points in the first half (40-26, 4:55 remaining), the Huskies closed the gap via an 18-8 push heading to halftime (48-44).
Right out of the break, Endicott used a 12-2 run fueled by Kinney, Montagnino and Sullivan over the first four minutes to regain its 14-point advantage (60-46).
From there, the Gulls continued to push the pedal to the metal, and eventually pulled completely away from the Huskies in the matchup.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls hold a 3-0 edge over the Huskies in the all-time series.
- Endicott outscored Southern Maine 52-36 in the high-octane second half.
- Kinney extended his made free throws streak to 32 after his seven-for-seven performance at the charity stripe tonight.
- Matt Boen (Mansfield, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with a gritty effort from the floor. He posted six points, seven rebounds, two blocks, a theft, and a dime in his 25 minutes.
- First 6-0 start to a season for the Blue and Green.
- Endicott last scored 100+ points on 1/18/25 against Hartford.
