Kevin Bettencourt Named HoopDirt.com Division III Coach Of The Week

HoopDirt.com Coaches of the Week Release 

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott men's basketball head coach Kevin Bettencourt (Peabody, Mass.) has been named the HoopDirt.com NCAA Division III Coach of the Week, presented by Just Play Solutions. 

Bettencourt, and the rest of his coaching staff, guided the Gulls to a 2-0 opening week, which included wins over Regis (75-70) and No. 7 Babson (90-80), the defending NCAA Division III national champion, en route to winning the Babson Invitational last weekend. 

Sophomore guard Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.) also played a big part in the pair of wins as Brown averaged 41.5 points over the two-game stretch. In the Gulls' victory over Babson in the championship game, Brown poured in a career-high 45 points on 15-for-25 shooting from the field. Brown's 45-point effort ranks second all-time on the single-game scoring list, while his 10 3-pointers tied his previous record that he set against Regis the day before, which ended up resulting in a 38-point day. Brown's 45-point game also fell two points shy of tying the program record. Overall, Brown shot 54.9% from the floor (28-51), 58.8% from beyond the arc (20-34), and 100% at the free throw line (7-7). 

Brown collected Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week honors, while his teammate Matt McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) earned CCC Rookie of the Week accolades. McDevitt compiled 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists – all career-highs  – against No. 7 Babson and also added five points, six rebounds, and two assists in the Gulls' victory over Regis. On the week, McDevitt 11.0 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, a 41.2 field goal percentage, a 38.5 three-point field goal percentage, and a 60.0 free throw percentage. 

Each honor for Brown and McDevitt was the first in their respective careers.
