Gulls Split In Weekend Contests

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's club ice hockey team split their two games this past weekend. In game one against Boston University senior Ryan Pratt (Waltham, Mass.) tallied four helpers in the 8-4 victory over the Terriers. In game two against a tough Northeastern squad eight different Gulls earned points in the 3-7 loss. The Gulls move to 9-4 on the season.

Game One at Boston University

Senior Cameron MacLeod (Hampton Falls, N.H.) started the scoring early in the opening minute of the first period after he and Pratt made a nice combo play to goal. The Terriers answered back a minute later but the Gulls took control by scoring back to back goals. Senior Kevin Butler (Natick, Mass.) earned the second after finishing the play started by senior Chris Murphy (Holden, Mass.) and junior Brendan Moore (Springfield, Mass.) who came out with the assists. The third came from the same line but Moore earned the goal with the assist going to Butler as they were able to get past the defense and get the puck through BU goaltender Jared Hynes (Peabody, Mass.).

BU ended the period with one more goal to enter the first intermission down to the Blue and Green 2-3.

In the opening minutes of the second period the Terriers tied the game up when sophomore Taylor Parkinson (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) was able to slip the puck past sophomore goaltender Nick Russo (Waltham, Mass.). After the goal Endicott lit up the ice and took control by scoring three unanswered goals from senior Tad Gold (Vineyard Haven, Mass.), MacLeod, and Murphy.

BU tallied one more goal but it would not be enough as Gold and senior Clark Dumart (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each tallied insurance goals to give the Gulls the victory.

Game Two at Northeastern

Game two was a bigger challenge for the Blue and Green as the Huskies are ranked #1 in the Patriot East conference. The first period was a battle on the scoreboard as NU started the scoring eight minutes in, but MacLeod and Gold answered back minutes later on a combo play to make it a 1-1 game. Following in their stead junior Jake Rand (Winthrop, Mass.) took the lead after finishing the play started by goaltender Russo and Pratt who earned the assists.

The Huskies tallied one more goal in the final minutes of the period to make it a 2-2 game to enter the first intermission.

In the second half NU took control by scoring three unanswered goals two being from junior Jake Jaeger (Suffern, N.Y.). Murphy answered back on the line with Moore and junior Dana Boudreau (Plymouth, Mass.) but it would not be enough as the Huskies tallied two more goals in the third period while keeping the Gulls off the board for the rest of the game to give the Gulls the defeat.

Endicott finished up their contest for 2013 and will pick back up after the New Year on January 25th as they host Connecticut at 7:30 p.m.
