Gulls Split In Weekend Contests, MacLeod Earns Career 100th Point

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's club ice hockey team had two games this past weekend. The Gulls lost to Central Connecticut State on Friday, 3-5 while they defeated Keene State on Sunday, 4-2. Throughout the weekend six different Gulls scored while senior Cameron MacLeod (Hampton Falls, N.H.) tallied his 100th career point against CCSU. The Blue and Green now stand at 2-1 on the season.

Game One at CCSU

In game one at CCSU the Gulls were battling back and forth with Blue Devils in scoring. With about six minutes remaining in the first period the Blue Devils tallied the first goal of the game off a power play as Jonathan Knobloch (West Haven, Conn.) slipped the puck past junior goaltender Sam Cohen (Fairfax, Va.) after he finished the play started by freshman Andrew Mazurkiewicz (Manchester, Conn.) and Evan Mink (West Haven, Conn.) who came out with the assists.

Four minutes later the Gulls answered back as junior Ed Estey (Beverly, Mass.) took advantage of the power play opportunity and found the back of the net. Seniors Chris Murphy (Holden, Mass.) and Kevin Butler (Natick, Mass.) started the opportunity that resulted in the goal to make it a 1-1 contest. The Blue Devils were not finished yet. At 44 seconds remaining in the period freshman Connor Stanley (South Windsor, Conn.) received a pass from freshman Ross Burton (New Britain, Conn.) and lifted it into the goal to take the lead entering the first intermission.

To start off the second period CCSU got an early tally to increase the lead to two. With 8 minutes remaining in the period senior Ryan Pratt (Waltham, Mass.) blasted the puck into the back of the net to bring the Gulls back within one goal. On the play freshman Matt Crowley (Bourne, Mass.) and MacLeod were awarded the assists, the assist for MacLeod would mark his career 100th point in his four years in a Gulls uniform.

In the final two minutes of the period, the Blue Devils scored two more goals in 20 seconds of each other to increase the lad to three. At the beginning of the third period Pratt tallied his second goal of the game and the lone goal of the period. The Gulls could not rally back from the two goal deficit and took the 3-5 loss.

Game Two at Keene State

For the game two matchup the Blue and Green were eager to get a win on the weekend. About halfway through the first period freshman Drew Thibodeau (Peabody, Mass.) tallied his first goal of the season off a power play opportunity after controlling a feed from Pratt. One minute later the Owls answered back after sophomore Tyler Clark (Hooksett, N.H.) was able to slip the puck past freshman goaltender Nick Russo (Waltham, Mass.) to tie up the game.

In the final minutes of the first period MacLeod finished a play started by Pratt and junior Ryan Hansen (West Haven, Conn.) to score the last goal before the first intermission.

To start off the second period the Owls came out firing and tied the game back up with 10:57 remaining in the period after Clark found the back of the net. The rest of the period would be silent until 1:13 remaining. Butler scored the game winning goal off a play stared by junior Brendan Moore (Springfield, Mass.) and Murphy.

In the third period freshman Tyler Peabody (Mendon, Mass.) tallied an insurance goal with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Murphy and sophomore Corey Goldman (Framingham, Mass.) were credited with the assists on the play. The Blue and Green kept the puck out of their defensive net for the remainder of the game to take the 4-2 win to end the long weekend.

Pratt came out of the weekend with a total of 6 points, while MacLeod tallied three. In goal for the Gulls Cohen and Russo split the weekend. Endicott will take the ice next on Friday, October 18th where they travel to Bryant for a 7:30 p.m. start.
