Shawn Medeiros Named D3SIDA President

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott Sports Information Director Shawn Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) has been elected president of the Division III Sports Information Directors Association (D3SIDA) for the 2020-21 academic year.

The announcement was made earlier today during the NCAA Division III Virtual Business Session in conjunction with the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) 2020 Virtual Convention.

Medeiros replaces Sage Colleges' Director of Athletic Communications Ann King who became the first female president in the 11-year history of D3SIDA this past academic year.

King is a 33-year veteran of the industry, a CoSIDA Hall of Famer, and most notably, among her numerous accomplishments in the profession, the 2017-18 recipient of CoSIDA's Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award.

The Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer award is presented annually to an individual who is a pioneer in the field of sports information and who has mentored and helped improve the level of ethnic and gender diversity within CoSIDA.

Meanwhile, Medeiros is now the youngest D3SIDA president in the history of the organization, the first from the New England region, and seventh overall. The Fall River, Mass. native is in his fifth year at Endicott and 11th overall in the profession, having received numerous accolades during his short time in the industry.

Some of those awards include the 2019 CoSIDA Rising Star Award for the College Division, the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Excellence in Communications Award from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the inaugural NCAA Division III Track & Field Excellence in Communications Award from the USTFCCCA in 2014, and the "Best in the Nation" award for CoSIDA's Publications Contest in the category of Special Events Publications for the College Division.

As for his USTFCCCA awards, at the time in 2017, Medeiros was the only NCAA Division III sports information director / athletic communications director to win a USTFCCCA Excellence in Communications Award for both sports (cross country and track & field) and just the second-ever to accomplish the feat regardless of NCAA division.

At Endicott, specifically, Medeiros has increased student-athlete publicity in the following areas: academics, community service, internships, and study abroad experiences. Medeiros has accomplished this through the campaign coined the "Endicott Experience" in conjunction with the College's Admission Office and the Career Center and Internship Office.

Medeiros' efforts in these areas have allowed him to serve as a panelist on the aforementioned topics at the NCAA Convention, CoSIDA, and Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) conventions.

Medeiros, and other members in Endicott's sports information office, have also mentored several Endicott students, interns, and graduate assistants who have gone on to pursue jobs within the profession. Alums from the office have landed jobs at schools and/or conference offices such as Temple University, Saint Anselm College, Guilford College, Bryant University, Keene State College, Lesley University, Roger Williams University, UMass Lowell, Suffolk University, and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Along with his academic-centered initiatives and mentorship, Medeiros has expanded upon Endicott's well-established social media platforms, which are Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Over the last four years, Medeiros has increased audience metrics on all platforms, which includes the following numbers for Facebook (217% growth/followers), Instagram (150%), and Twitter (127%).

The result of Endicott's expanded social media presence has aided the Gulls in being featured on ESPN numerous times, including SportsCenter and Sunday Night Football, along with USA Today, NESN, Yahoo!, and many other prominent media outlets and national social medial personalities.

Medeiros is an active member of ECAC-SIDA and CoSIDA. He currently serves on the CoSIDA Mentorship Program and Young Professionals committees and previously served on CoSIDA's Continuing Education, New Media, and Academic All-America® committees.

In addition to his CoSIDA committee work, Medeiros previously served as D3SIDA's 1st Vice President, which includes being responsible for helping with the NCAA DIII Divisional Days at CoSIDA's national conventions in 2019-22.

He previously held the positions of D3SIDA 2nd Vice President and D3SIDA Region 1 Representative (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont).

Along with that committee work, Medeiros is a member of the College Division Management Advisory Committee (CDMAC) and is a member of the Endicott Athletics Hall of Fame committee.

Lastly, Medeiros is a member of the editorial board for Endicott's Soundings Magazine and previously served a three-year term as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) SID Co-Chair from 2016-19.
