(The Endicott Experience feature aims to highlight our student-athletes’ internship experiences throughout their academic careers. The first installment of the Endicott Experience features 64 of our student-athletes who are currently involved in a myriad of internships throughout New England.)
BEVERLY, Mass. – Following the College’s philosophy to "learn by doing" through experiential learning, 64 of Endicott’s student-athletes are currently completing internships in their intended career areas throughout New England this fall.
Among the group of 64 student-athletes, 21 majors and 68 internship sites are represented on the fall 2015 list. Some of the majors represented on the fall 2015 internship list include business, athletic training, interior design, criminal justice, and nursing, while some of the internship sites include Brigham & Women’s Hospital, PUMA North America, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and Harvard University. THE ENDICOTT MODEL
Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.
Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:
- Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
- Develop competencies for careers and community service
- Explore career options and gain field experience
- Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
- Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner
THE INTERNSHIP SEQUENCE FOR FIELD-BASED LEARNING AT ENDICOTT
Bachelor degree candidates complete two 120-hour Internships (INT100 and INT200) for two credits each and one Semester Internship for 12 credits over 14 weeks. Bachelor degree students entering Endicott College with 30 or more credits are exempt from one 120-hour internship.
OTHER MODELS FOR INTERNSHIP
Nursing, Athletic Training and Education students follow a different model for internships to meet their graduation requirements. Nursing and Athletic Training internship credits are earned in clinical education experiences. Education students devote internship hours to student teaching.
