HOW INTERNSHIPS LEAD TO CAREER OUTCOMES

“All of my internships that I have completed not only have prepared me for the future, but have also given me insight on what career path I want to pursue after graduation.” – Gareth Benshoff (Equestrian)

“Having the chance to complete internships and clinicals during my time at Endicott has given me the hands on experience I need to excel in my field. Through my internship and clinical involvement, I have gained the confidence I need to be an effective leader, and I also think completing internships and clinicals is important to my success upon graduation because it helps me prepare for the transition to becoming a registered nurse (RN).” – Lawrence Gonzalez (Football)

“Getting a job out of college has never been more competitive than it is now, and in an age where everyone has a degree you need something to set you apart from the rest. Being able to put down real life experience as an undergraduate student on your resume is extremely valuable not only to me, but also for my potential future employer. In my case, I will have two 400-hour internships completed when I graduate and that experience will be invaluable when I apply for a job.” – Steve Morganelli (Baseball)

“If you asked me what type of nurse I wanted to be my freshman year I probably would have given you several different answers. Now, after completing my last rotation, it is my goal to become a labor and delivery nurse. Interning at several different hospitals throughout my undergraduate career has allowed me to really get to know myself better and figure out what specialty I really want to focus on post-graduation. If I didn’t have the chance to complete multiple clinical rotations I am not sure I would have arrived at what I truly wanted to do in my career before graduating.” – Jamie Corda (Softball)

THE ENDICOTT MODEL

Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.

Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:

  • Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
  • Develop competencies for careers and community service
  • Explore career options and gain field experience
  • Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
  • Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner

THE INTERNSHIP SEQUENCE FOR FIELD-BASED LEARNING AT ENDICOTT

Bachelor degree candidates complete two 120-hour Internships (INT100 and INT200) for two credits each and one Semester Internship for 12 credits over 14 weeks. Bachelor degree students entering Endicott College with 30 or more credits are exempt from one 120-hour internship.

OTHER MODELS FOR INTERNSHIP

Nursing, Athletic Training and Education students follow a different model for internships to meet their graduation requirements. Nursing and Athletic Training internship credits are earned in clinical education experiences. Education students devote internship hours to student teaching.  Please contact the appropriate program for additional information.
