CCRC Earns Runner-Up Finish In NCR Women’s Small College All-Star Championship

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott women's rugby student-athletes Sarah Aylwin (Topsfield, Mass.), Cassidy McElhinney (Natick, Mass.), Tess Merrill (Greenwich, N.Y.), Carolina Stubbs (Newtown, Conn.), and Jourdan VanAmburgh (Selkirk, N.Y.) helped the Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) Women's 7's All-Star Team to a runner-up finish in the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Small College All-Star Championship last weekend in Houston, Texas.

In pool play, the CCRC went 2-1 overall in matches against Northern Lights (W, 50-5), Allegheny (W, 29-5), and Eastern Penn (L, 26-5).

The CCRC followed pool play with victories over Upstate N.Y. (27-5, quarterfinals) and Great Waters (5-0, semifinals) to punch their ticket to the championship.

Unfortunately, Eastern Penn slipped past CCRC in the championship match in overtime, 22-17.

Based on available stats, Merrill contributed eight tries to the championship run, while Aylwin and Stubbs both had two. McElhinney and Van Amburgh also found the try zone once with Van Amburgh's being the game-winning score against Great Waters in the semifinals.

McElhinney and Van Amburgh rounded out the scoring with three conversions and a solo conversion, respectively.

For her efforts in the entire tournament, Stubbs was named to NCR Small College All-Star Championship All-Tournament Team.
