Softball Sweeps Gordon, 5-2 & 4-0

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team swept a pair of conference games (5-2, 4-0) against Gordon on Tuesday evening.

GAME ONE: Endicott 5, Gordon 2

WP (5-1): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K

LP (4-6): Emily Graham (Amesbury, Mass.) — 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

The visitors took an early 2-0 after the top of the first before the Gulls responded and never looked back.

In the bottom half of the first, Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) notched an RBI single to right center field.

Shortly after, Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) scored on an error manufactured by a stolen base attempt by Romero, before Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) plated Romero to take the 3-2 lead.

Saccoccio struck again with two runs batted in via a single to right-center (3rd inn.) and a single up the middle (5th inn.) to propel the Gulls to the victory.

Couto's efforts in the circle after the first inning proved to be the difference, only allowing three hits and five base runners on after that point.

GAME TWO: Endicott 4, Gordon 0

WP (4-2): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 K

LP (1-4): Sierra Ricci (Greene, R.I.) — 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

After a pitcher's duel for the first five innings, the Gulls broke through to capture the sweep.

In the bottom of the sixth, pinch-hitter Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) registered an opposite field to begin the frame, followed by a Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass) double down the right field line to put two runners in scoring position.

Meanwhile, Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) plated both players courtesy of a single up the middle to break open the matchup (2-0).

The middle of the order consisting of Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) / Romero drove home an RBI apiece with a sacrifice fly and a double to left center, respectively.

In the circle, Beebe made quick work of Gordon's hitters by getting ahead in the count and pitching to contact when needed to complete the shutout.
