Softball Sweeps Spring Break Opening Day

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Endicott softball team defeated St. Lawrence (10-2, 6 inn.) and Amherst (5-0) on Sunday at Legends Way (Field 1).

GAME ONE: Endicott 10, St. Lawrence 2 (6 inn.)

WP (1-0): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
LP (0-1): Izzy Melanson (Norfolk, Mass.) — 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, the Gulls evened up the score via an RBI single by Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) and a sac fly off the bat of Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.).

Endicott fed off the newfound momentum exploding eight runs in the sixth to mercy rule the Saints.

Highlighting the inning were homers from Shapleigh (3-run shot) and Marchand (solo bomb to center), and a walk-off single by Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.).


GAME TWO: Endicott 5, Amherst 0 

WP (1-0): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 6.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 10 K
LP (0-1): Dani Torres Werra (Merced, Calif.) — 7 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.), Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.), and Nowicki all notched RBI singles to fuel the offense.

Mitchell gave the Gulls a 1-0 lead in the second, while Romero and Nowicki tacked on some insurance runs in the sixth.

Endicott also scored two more in the seventh on a wild pitch and a fielding error.

Abigail Gilbert (Millbury, Mass.) finished off the seventh (walk, fly out to center) to secure the win and put a bow on Beebe's impressive collegiate debut in the circle.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • First-ever meeting against St. Lawrence.
  • Endicott is 4-2 all-time versus Amherst (all games played in Florida).
  • Nowicki went 4-for-6 with one run, a triple, two RBI, a walk, and a stolen base on the day.
  • The Gulls posted their first spring break opening day sweep since 2019.
