Gikas Claims Both Rookie and Player of the Week Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced today that freshman Chrissy Gikas (Danvers, Mass.) earned this week's Rookie and Player of the Week honors for her efforts in yesterday's two shutout victories over Bowdoin and Bethany (W.V.). The Gulls are currently down in Clermont, Florida where they are participating in the Dot Richardson Spring Games being held at the National Training Center. The two victorious marked a strong opening to the 2014 season for the softball team.

The first victory came against regional opponent Bowdoin where Gikas scored one run in the third inning to get the Blue and Green on the board early. In the fourth she also earned an RBI that gave Endicott the 2-0 victory as she hit freshman counterpart Julia McNeil (Hauppauge, N.Y.) home. In game two Gikas earned her second run in an Endicott uniform in the 9-0 triumph over Bethany (W.V.) that saw eight different Gulls score runs.

Endicott saw action this morning as they dropped their first game of 2014 in a tough 3-7 loss to Allegheny while they are currently playing Plymouth State that had a 1:00 p.m. start. The squad will pick back up tomorrow as they face St. Norbert and Scranton at the NTC at 1/5 PM.
