Endicott shuts down Curry 9-0 on Senior Day

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team will head into their final match of the regular season, a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) showdown at Nichols, with a 10-6 (5-2 CCC) record after the Gulls handed league opponent Curry a 9-0 defeat at the Bass River Tennis Club.

Endicott took time before the match to honor a trio of standout student-athletes in Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I.), Olivier Joggi (Stoneham, Mass.), and Benjamin Randlett (Middlebury, Vt.) on Senior Day.  Cohen and Joggi have been captains of the Gulls men's tennis program for the past two seniors, and along with Randlett, have helped Endicott earn bids into the CCC Tournament in each of past three seasons including two semifinal appearances.

Joggi is well-decorated, garnering All-CCC honors in both singles and doubles in 2011 and 2012 while Cohen earned his first all-conference award last spring for his doubles performance.  In two season with the Gulls, Randlett has excelled, especially on the doubles court as he has compiled a 17-9 overall record.

Against the Colonels, the Blue and Green took all three doubles match ups by a score of 8-2 to take the 3-0 lead.  Freshman Clay Arnold (Ivoryton, Conn.) and junior Andrew Zurheide (New London, N.H.) took the #3 doubles flight before Randlett, with partner Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.), won #2 doubles followed by Cohen and Joggi's triumph at the top position.

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets.  Sophomore Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.) kicked it off with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #5 singles, then fellow sophomore Michael Lauretano (Winchester, Mass.) took #4 singles 6-1, 6-1 as Endicott led 5-0 by that point.

The final four singles matches finished with junior Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass.) claiming a hard-fought 6-4, 6-2 top singles win over Curry freshman Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec), freshman Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) going for a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3 singles, sophomore Corbin Tulley (Hollis, N.H.) winning 6-0, 6-2 at #6 singles, and sophomore Timothy Forance (Natick, Mass.) wrapping up the match with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the #2 position.

Endicott travels to Nichols on Wednesday, April 24th for their final match before the start of the CCC Tournament.  The match will start at 4:00 pm and will be played at Assumption College.  Curry ends their spring campaign on Wednesday with a road match against CCC opponent Gordon starting at 3:30 pm.
