The EC men's soccer team defeated conference opponent Anna Maria College, 3-1, at Endicott Stadium yesterday. The win puts Endicott back on track after a tough stretch in which they lost 4 of their last five games. Endicott's record now stands at 7-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference.
In a game dominated by the Gulls, 17 shots to Anna Maria's 7, EC struggled to find the back of the net. Although they ripped 8 shots on net in the first half, they were only able to find the back of the net once. At the 43:00 mark of the half sophomore Adam Paul found an opening in the defense and sent a long ball to Josh Lewis who blasted a shot to the side netting. The score would stay at 1-0 entering the half.
The second half was much more productive for EC. With midfielders Daniel Duvernoy and Elias Carrero leading the attack, the Gulls again dominated play. At the 56:00 mark of the game, senior defender Ryan Vigilant snuck by his mark and banged home a rebound off a free kick making it 2-0 in Endicott's favor. EC continued to press. At the 81:00 mark senior defender Shawn Bullis put a nifty move on his Anna Maria defender. From the corner he sent a cross to the middle of the box where sophomore midfielder Chris Croteau sent a diving header to the back of the net. Four minutes later Matt Thompson added Anna Maria's lone goal to end the scoring 3-1 in favor of the Gulls.
The EC Men continue conference play on Wednesday at 3pm against school rival Gordon College.
