EC Stays On Top With a 2-0 Win Over Colby Sawyer

Sept. 27, 2004

The EC men's soccer team defeated the Colby Sawyer Chargers Saturday 2-0 improving their record to 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. With the win, the Gulls remain on top of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Endicott initially dominated the first half. As soon as the whistle blew, the Gulls were all over the Chargers forcing bad balls and errant passes. But Colby Sawyer was feisty giving EC all they could handle later in the half. The Gulls and Chargers both had numerous shot opportunities but both came up a bit short and were held scoreless in the first half. Anchoring the EC defense was senior Ryan Vigilant.

The second half was all EC. After a few adjustments the Gulls opened scoring with a cross from junior Steven Gloria which deflected off a Colby Sawyer defender and found its way to the back of the net. The goal was officially one for the Chargers. Later in the half, EC would strike again. Junior Daniel Duvernoy sent a beautiful ball through to Gloria who beat his defender and sent a blazing shot to the back of the Charger net giving EC a 2-0 lead. Colby Sawyer, in an act of desperation threw everything they had at EC in the latter moments of the game but EC's stingy defense sent them away without a score. Junior goalkeeper Colin Kemble had a brilliant game preserving his second shutout of the season.

The EC men will be away on Monday when they face Bridgewater State at 4:00.
