Beverly, MA - After battling to a 1-1 tie through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime sessions, EC was defeated in a round of five penalty kicks in the Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinals. The fourth-seeded EC was outscored by the fifth-seeded Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team 3-1 during the game ending penalty kicks.
Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper, Joe Albiston, saved the first two penalty kicks by Endicott, which converted its only make on the third try. Colby-Sawyer capitalized on their first, fourth and fifth attempts. The Gulls' fourth shot sailed over the goal and their fifth kick was not taken since Colby-Sawyer had clinched the match.
Following a scoreless first period, the Chargers took the day's first lead, 60:05 into the game, when Matt Athorn finished a cross from the right side off the foot of Scott Macdonald. The Gulls tied the contest 4:07 later when John Haskos, from 25-yards out, found the back of the net on a free kick. Neither side would score again over the next 45:48 of play.
Mitch Donar turned away eight shots for Endicott and Albiston recorded six saves for the Chargers. Both keepers made three stops in the two overtime periods.
