ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Taking on the fifth-ranked team in NCAA Division III, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), the Endicott men's lacrosse team was handed a 17-5 loss on the final day of the Flower City Cup as the Gulls fell to 3-3 overall.
Endicott (3-3, 1-0 CCC) moves on to face Amherst on Wednesday, March 20th at 4:00 pm at Harvard University's Soldiers Field. RIT improved to 4-1 and will host St. John Fisher on Wednesday.
The Tigers saw Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario), Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, N.Y.), and Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario) combine for 10 goals and Jack Krzyston (Bedford, N.H.) a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists to lead RIT to their second win of the weekend.
Endicott's five goals were netted by five different goal scorers as Connor McCormack (Norwalk, Conn.), Chris Murphy (Holden, Mass.), Joshua Tordik (Sayville, N.Y.), Jonathan Morgan (Lake Panamoka, N.Y.), and Kyle Weber (West Hartford, Conn.) all found the back of the net. Weber's goal was his team-leading 15th goal of the spring.
Between the pipes, Tigers goalie Pat Johnston (Norwell, Mass.) made 14 saves while the RIT defense caused nine turnovers. Johnston's counterpart, Gulls freshman Cameron Bell (Falmouth, Maine) made 16 saves.
Endicott face-off specialist Sam Ozycz (Cheshire, Conn.) continued his dominance on the draw going 17-of-25 on face-offs with 12 groundballs.
RIT led 4-0 after the first half and held a 5-0 advantage before Connor McCormack, from Ozycz scored Endicott's first goal. McCormack's goal sparked a three-goal run by Endicott who cut RIT's first half lead down to 5-3. An unassisted goal by Tordik followed by a man-up score by Weber, with an assist to Harrison Cotter (Lordship, Conn.), brought the Blue and Green within two goals.
RIT finished the first half with an 8-3 advantage and built a 13-3 lead in the third quarter before back-to-back unassisted goals by Murphy and Morgan capped off the scoring for the Gulls.
