North American Lacrosse League Draft Results
BEVERLY, Mass. – Two years and a half years after
playing in his final men’s lacrosse game in a Gulls uniform,
Endicott’s all-time points leader Brandon Dube
(’09) was drafted by the Kentucky Stickhorses of the
North American Lacrosse League (NALL) this past Sunday and will
compete alongside a number of former Division I, II and III players
from across the country.
The attackman was drafted in the 16th round (78
overall) and will play with teammates from Temple, Ohio State,
Cornell, UNC, Hofstra from the NCAA Division I level. Dube
will also team up with former Gordon College player Joel
Derechinski ’10.
Dube amassed 275 points in his four-year career for Endicott,
scoring 144 goals and assisting on 131 more from 2006 to
2009. During that span, Endicott appeared in four CCC
Championship games, winning two titles and playing in the NCAA DIII
Tournament in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 and 2009, the Gulls won
the ECAC DIII New England Tournament behind a combined six goals
and three assists from Dube in those two games.
Gulls head men’s lacrosse coach Sean Quirk, a two-year
player for the Boston Blazers following his stellar career at
Springfield College, commented on what it means to see one of his
former players continue to play at the professional level,
“The opportunity for these players to compete at the next
level is terrific. It proves that their hard work and
commitment to improving while at Endicott paid off.”
Dube, a native of Danvers who graduated from Danvers High School
in 2005, joins former Endicott stars John Ortolani (’08) and
Patrick Gaffney (’07) who have been drafted by a professional
lacrosse league in recent years.
Ortolani, arguably Endicott’s most celebrated men’s
lacrosse player, has been an impact midfielder for the Boston
Blazers, the Boston Cannons and even in the Octagon in nine mixed
martial arts events. Gaffney has been a defenseman for the
Cannons over the past two seasons. Both Ortolani and Gaffney
were part of the Cannons team that won the 2011 Major League
Lacrosse Championship after going 9-3 and taking the title game
16-15 in overtime over Rochester.
“They were terrific assets while playing at Endicott and
have proved they can play at the highest level
professionally. It makes you proud to see your former players
being successful in the game of lacrosse and the game of life when
they graduate.”
