BEVERLY, MA - The 19th ranked Endicott College men's lacrosse team pumped in 23 goals on a rain-soaked Wednesday night to defeat the University of New England Nor'easters, 23-5 in Beverly, MA. The Gulls are now 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Endicott sprinted out of the gates by scoring eight unanswered goals, seven of which came in the opening quarter. Nick Cosco (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) found the back of the net three times in the first fifteen minutes as the sophomore attackman netted a game-high five scores for the Blue and Green. The University of New England finally got on the board at the 14:38 mark of quarter number two when Dan Leyden (Northfield, MA/Academy at Claremont) beat Nate Barry (Chestertown, MD/Gunston) with an unassisted tally to make the score 8-1.
Endicott and UNE exchanged scores over the next six-minutes of play as Juan Lozano (Portsmouth, NH/Londonderry) and Robert Labbe (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) each scored for the visitors. Endicott fired right back, sealing the game as the Gulls pounded home 12-straight goals as they cruised to the 23-5 win.
Endicott had 12 different players tally goals for the Blue and Green. Cosco led the way with five goals and one assist for six points. CCC and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week Josh Gilbert (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) converted on three strikes for the Gulls, while both Dan Leary (Exeter, NH/Exeter) and Dan Cain (Billerica, MA/Billerica) also notched three goals in the win. John Ortolani (Billerica, MA/Billerica) was once again dominant at the face-off X, winning 13-of-18 draws. The Gulls held a substantial shot advantage, out-shooting the Nor'easters 68-23.
Endicott has now outscored the University of New England 87-9 in their last four contests. The Gulls look to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Seahawks of Salve Regina University. Should the Gulls be victorious, it would mark the fifth-straight year Endicott posted an undefeated CCC regular season record. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM in Newport, RI.
