BRUNSWICK, ME - The Endicott College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a four-goal lead and never trailed in a 10-6 non-conference victory over Bowdoin College on Wednesday evening in Brunswick, Maine. Endicott, now 5-1, is currently ranked No. 20 in the latest Inside Lacrosse National Poll.
The Gulls rattled off the games first four goals in the opening 7:35 of the first quarter to put the Polar Bears in an early hole. Reigning CCC Player of the Week Nick Cosco (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) opened the scoring for the Gulls as he beat Charlie Legg (Baltimore, MD/Gilman School) to put Endicott up 1-0. Josh Gilbert (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury), Dan Cain (Billerica, MA/Billerica) and Eddie O'Reilly (Beverly, MA/Beverly) rifled off the next three for the Blue and Green, giving the Gulls the 4-0 advantage.
The Polar Bears clawed back into the contest thanks to a Max Key (Greenwood Village, CO/Kent-Denver) goal late in the opening quarter, followed by a pair of man-up tallies to start the second frame, narrowing the Gulls lead to one at 4-3. Endicott answered the bell with an unassisted goal by defender Patrick Gaffney (Worcester, MA/St. John's) and then countered with a strike from Cosco, regaining the Gulls three goal cushion. Bowdoin's Harry Ashforth (Ridgefield, CT/Deerfield) and Mike Giordano (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) notched goals to cut the Gulls lead back down to one. EC's Dan Ryan (Billerica, MA/Billerica) scored just 1:38 before intermission, sending the visitors into the break with a 7-5 lead.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Endicott put the game away with a three-goal run to open the fourth. Eddie O'Reilly, Joe Gugino (West Hartford, CT/Conard) and Brandon Dube (Danvers, MA/Danvers) all netted goals for the Gulls during their three goal spurt, pushing Endicott to a 10-5 lead. Bowdoin's Matt Legg (Baltimore, MD/Gilman School) scored late to close out the contest, wrapping the scoring up for a 10-6 Endicott win.
Eddie O'Reilly and Nick Cosco each scored two goals apiece to lead the Gulls. Endicott goaltender Sean Kearney (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) once again stood tall between the pipes, registering nine saves for the Blue and Green. The Polar Bears had six different goals scorers in the losing effort.
With the win, Endicott ups their overall record to 5-1. The Gulls retake the field on Saturday afternoon as they return to CCC play, hosting the Bison of Nichols College. Face-off is scheduled for 12:00 Noon in Beverly, MA. Saturday's game will also be available through Endicott's state-of-the-art webcasting service, Endicott All-Access. Pre-game audio and video coverage is slated for an 11:55 AM airtime.
