Walker Collects Second CCC Rookie of the Week Award This Season

CCC Athletes of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) was named CCC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Endicott men's basketball team to a 3-0 record in a pair of victories at the Salem State Holiday Classic in late December and a dramatic overtime win over conference opponent University of New England last Saturday.

Walker averaged 13.0 points a game by shooting 50.0% from the floor, 36.4% from three-point range, and 78.6% at the free throw line.  He also averaged 3.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds as the Gulls improved to 8-2 (2-1 CCC) on the season.

After playing just 11 minutes in Endicott's 75-72 win over Berkeley on day one of the Salem State Holiday Classic, Walker played a more integral role in an 84-80 triumph over Little East and North Shore rival Salem State with 16 points, four boards, and three assists.  He went 6-of-12 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half.

Walker followed up that effort with a standout performance late in the game against UNE, tying the game with 10 seconds left after being fouled on a three-point attempt by hitting all three free throws and scoring 10 points in overtime to lead Endicott to a 103-95 win.  Walker finished with 19 points in the game on 5-of-8 shooting overall with two threes and 7-of-9 free throw makes.

Walker is one of several first year Gulls who is having a major impact on the team's success in 2013-14.  He now sits at 11.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game averages.  Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.), Greg Jacques (Brockton, Mass.), Stephen Basden (Lynn, Mass.), Taylor Rioux (Ivoryton, Conn.), Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.), and Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) are all playing their first seasons wearing the Blue and Green and having strong campaigns.

Endicott returns to action on Tuesday, January 7th with a 7:30 tip-off at home against Salve Regina.  The Seahawks are currently 8-2 (3-0 CCC) on the year.
