Riley Shanley Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America® Second Team Honors

COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott tight end Riley Shanley '21 (Simsbury, Conn.) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division III Football Second Team, as announced by the organization.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athlete award for student-athletes. The program receives 20,000 nominations yearly and selects 4,000 all-district and 1,500 All-America honorees each year. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program was established in 1952.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Shanley is the sixth CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history joining two-time honoree Craig Anderson '17 (Franklin, Mass.), Endicott Hall of Famer Michael Lane '12 (Medfield, Mass.)Mike Zupkosky '12 (Westford, Mass.), and James Lewis '20 (New Fairfield, Conn.) on the list.

Shanley recently earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing Communication/Advertising degree with a minor in business administration behind a 3.48 GPA. 

Shanley, who will continue his academic career at Endicott to pursue a Master of Science in Sport Leadership degree, is a three-time CCC Academic All-Conference award winner, a member of the Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, and a multiple Dean's List honoree.

Meanwhile, his internship experiences include working at the Vanguard Sports Group (marketing), CashmanKatz (digital marketing/social media), and Tyler English Fitness (video/social media).

At Vanguard, Shanley assisted college student-athletes in National Football League (NFL) preparation by creating graphics and formulating social media strategies. His social media marketing background was also put into practice heavily at CashmanKatz as Shanley planned, created, and posted social content, analyzed social metrics, and facilitated marketing campaigns based on the overall company strategy.

All of Shanley's internship experiences have culminated in earning himself a summer internship as a social media coordinator with The Players' Impact. The Players' Impact is an exclusive group of professional athlete investors and entrepreneurs.

  • Shanley is the only Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) student-athlete named to this year's CoSIDA Academic All-America® list.
  • He was one of four student-athletes from New England selected to the 50-person Academic All-America® list.
  • The other student-athletes from New England were represented by MIT (2) and WPI. 
  • Shanley is the first tight end in program history to claim CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors.
