Beverly, MA-- In a sweep of cross-town rival, Gordon College, the EC Gulls scored 8 runs in the first game and one in the second, improving their overall record to 15-2, 9-1 in the Conference.
In the first game, the Gulls scored three of their eight runs off of two hits. Center fielder, Paula McGinn singled in pinch runner Missy Swymer from third, giving the Gulls their first run of the game. Freshman Ashley Labella would get a single and RBI of her own, allowing Nicole Reather to cross the plate. Senior co-captain Megan Young reached first on a throwing error by Gordon, while Labella ran home for the third EC run.
The Gulls continued to play tough defense, allowing the Gordon Scots little room to surmount a comeback. McGinn would bat in another run, as she singled in Doherty from third. The fifth and sixth run of the game were thanks in part to Young's double, as McGinn and Reather scored for EC. Elyse Colby singled in the 7th run of the game, and senior Katie Doherty ended the game with a single, allowing the 8th and final run for EC.
Robyn Savitske improved her overall pitching record to 9-0. She remained undefeated thanks in part to allowing only two hits and striking out five. She faced only 20 batters in six innings.
In the second game, Robyn Savitske again only allowed two hits, making it very tough for Gordon's offense. Savitske did not allow a run, leading the Gulls to the 1-0 victory.
The lone run for EC came in the 5th inning, when Paula McGinn started things off with a single. After advancing to 2nd on a passed ball, Ashley Labella grounded out to the shortstop, allowing McGinn to move to third. Megan Young hit a RBI single, to bring McGinn in for the winning run.
The Gulls post an impressive overall record of 15-2, 9-1 in the CCC. EC is back in action this Tuesday, hosting Anna Maria College for a double header. The first game is set to begin at 3:00PM.
