BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott women's cross country team finished fourth overall out of 13 programs at the Roger Williams University (RWU) Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Colt State Park to open up its 2016 season.

Wellesley ranked first (37 points) by placing four out of its five top runners inside the top-10, while Salve Regina checked in as the runner-up of the meet (59 points) and Colby-Sawyer finished third (105 points).

Endicott (162 points) sophomore Abigail Keim (Williston, Vt.) guided the Gulls for the seventh time in eight career races as she ranked 12th overall in a time of 20:40.73 on the 5-kilometer course.

Kiera Malone (Woburn, Mass.) was 29th overall (21:25.22), while freshman Laura Pomeroy (Windham, N.H.) placed 34th (21:53.57), and Lauren Tocci (Shamong, N.J.) ranked 41st (22:07.96). Kelly O'Neill (Cumberland, R.I.) concluded the top-5 with a time of 22:36.94 for 46th place overall.

TOP QUOTE

"There's a lot of work to do but provided it's only five days into the season, we are pleased with how things panned out. It was also great to see everyone get back into the racing mentality and watch our freshmen runners gain experience against a solid field, which included some of our conference opponents," said Endicott women's cross country head coach Spencer Lange. "In addition to that, Laura Pomeroy held her own while pacing the other women and had a great start to her career. Today was more about feeling confident and developing the pace throughout the race and they executed that perfectly."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Keim improved her time from last year's RWU Invitational by nearly 35-seconds (34:08/21:14.81).
  • Endicott topped Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foes Roger Williams (164), Western New England (189), Gordon (195), and Curry (419) in today's meet.
