Gulls Defeat Plymouth State 2-0 to Win Seventh Straight Match

PLYMOUTH, N.H.-  With a six match win streak on the line in which they have outscored their opponents 16-4, the Gulls traveled to Plymouth State to take on the Panthers for the team's second match in two days.  Endicott used a dominant performance on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball to record a 2-0 win.  The win is the 7th straight for the Gulls and improves their record to 7-3-1 (2-0-0) on the season while Plymouth drops to 1-7-0 (0-2-0).

With the offensive depth of the Gulls rapidly becoming a major story line for the 2013 season, yet another young talent stepped up again on Sunday as sophomore Ashley Mueskes (Georgetown, Mass.) scored in the 27th minute to give Endicott the 1-0 edge in the first period.  Mueskes, who assisted on the first goal of yesterday's 3-1 win over Wentworth, was able to beat Plymouth State keeper Annaliese Schmidt (New Market, N.H.) with her unassisted tally that came on the seventh shot of the match for the Gulls.  At this time, Endicott had yet to allow the Panthers to take shot for as the Gulls were constantly on the offensive attack.

The 1-0 halftime score was deceptive as the back line for the Gulls held Plymouth's offense without a shot.  Endicott, on the other hand, was able to get off 13 shots, nine of which were on frame.  Without Schmidt's heroic efforts, the score easily could have been a wider margin early in the affair.  Schmidt finished the first half with eight saves that would give her team a fighting chance going into the second half.

The Gulls would maintain pressure on both sides of the ball in the second half and were on the verge of widening the gap on multiple occasions early and often.  Endicott wouldn't be able to find the back of the net again until the 72nd minute.  Mackenzie Gaudet (Concord, N.H.) tallied her second in as many days and third of the season to grow the lead to 2-0 for Endicott.  That score would hold true to the end as Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) wouldn't have to make a save to win her seventh straight in net as well.

Endicott would wind up outshooting the Panthers 24-2, causing Schmidt to put forth an outstanding effort in recording 13 saves in the loss.  For Endicott, Mueskes' tally in the first half marked the 12th player to score for Endicott on the season, showing the depth and versatility of the roster.  The Gulls also took two corner kicks to the Panther's zero.

The Gulls are now off for the week until returning to action on Saturday.  Saturday's match against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Western New England comes as part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities at Endicott.  Start time is slated for 4:30 p.m.  Plymouth State gets two days off before they head to Lyndon State on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. start.
