CoSIDA RELEASE | ENDICOTT ALL-TIME HONOREES
BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott junior infielder Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) has earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® First Team honors.
With today's announcement, Watts is the eighth student-athlete in program history to receive CoSIDA Academic All-District® accolades.
Watts will now appear on the national ballot for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® team, which will be voted on by Sports Information Directors (SIDs) across the country this week.
Watts was the only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) student-athlete selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athlete award for student-athletes. The program receives 20,000 nominations yearly and selects 4,000 all-district and 1,500 All-America honorees each year. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program was established in 1952.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
ACADEMIC RESUME
Academically, Watts currently sports a 3.96 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a mathematics major with a concentration in secondary education.
She is a two-time CCC Academic All-Conference selection and multi-time Dean's List honoree.
Watts also earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors in 2020-21 and is a member of both the Kappa Delta Pi and Mortar Board Honor Societies.
Her experiential learning outcomes include teaching at Beverly Middle School (pre-practicum 8th grade/literacy placement 8th grade), Pickering Middle School (English immersion field placement 7th grade), Swampscott Middle School (7th grade), and Tewksbury Memorial High School (9th & 10th grades).
Watts has gained firsthand experience in incorporating classroom management strategies, practicing teaching techniques, lesson planning, implementing English immersion techniques to accommodate English Langue Learners (ELL), and teaching mathematic literacy, algebra, and geometry.
Alongside her internship experiences, Watts is a College Presidential Ambassador, Admission Tour Guide, manager of the men's basketball team, member of the Education Club, and involved with the Campus Activities Board, School of Education Student Advisory Board, and the Endicott Emerging Leaders group.
She previously served in a leadership role with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and was a ball attendant for the Boston Red Sox last year.
2021-22 SEASON
Athletically, Watts started in all 45 games for the Gulls this season.
Watts compiled a .371/.413/.517 slash line to go along with 33 runs, 53 hits (10 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR), 23 RBI, 11 walks, and six stolen bases on as many attempts.
Her CCC ranks included: Games (1st), Plate Appearances (159, 3rd), At-Bats (143, 3rd), Runs (6th), Hits (3rd), Doubles (11th), Triples (18th), Home Runs (12th), RBI (16th), Total Bases (74, 8th), Walks (16th), Stolen Bases (11th), Batting Average (11th), On-Base Percentage (15th), and Slugging Percentage (19th).
For her efforts this season, Watts was named to the All-CCC Second Team and the NFCA All-Region II Second Team (DP/UTL), and earned CCC Player of the Week honors on 4/25/22.
YEAR IN REVIEW
The Gulls finished the year 32-13 overall and 15-3 in CCC play.
Endicott captured its third straight CCC Championship with a sweep over Western New England, 6-5 and 11-3 (6 inn.), on May 7.
In the NCAA Tournament, the Gulls advanced to the regional championship round for the first time since 2014 before falling to No. 4 nationally ranked and potential College World Series champion Salisbury University.
