Five Gulls Garner All-CCC Accolades

CCC SOFTBALL ALL-CONFERENCE RELEASE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Endicott softball team is pleased to recognize five Gulls named to the 2017 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Softball All-Conference teams, as was announced Thursday evening by the conference office.

Sophomore outfielder Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) was the lone Gull appearing on the All-CCC First Team, while the trio of freshman pitcher Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.), junior catcher Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.), and senior outfielder Julia McNeill (Smithtown, N.Y.) landed on the Second Team. Sophomore outfielder Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.) rounded out the list of honorees on the Third Team.

ALL-CCC FIRST TEAM

Olivia Odermatt | So. | OF | Cheshire, Conn.

Odermatt, a first-time All-CCC honoree, has played in 32 of the Gulls' 34 games this season. She is leads the team with a .385 batting average and is currently is second on the team with 35 hits, including a team-leading 11 extra-base hits (team-best 10 doubles and one home run). She also leads the team with 10 multi-hit games and owns the team's second-longest streak of reaching base safely (14) from April 7th to April 18th. Odermatt has driven in 13 runs, scored 24 of her own (second-most on the team), and has drawn a team-high 14 walks to go with eight stolen bases. Defensively, Odermatt has tracked down 58 fly balls with six assists and just two errors with three double plays turned in 66 total chances for a .970 fielding percentage as the Gulls' everyday centerfielder.

ALL-CCC SECOND TEAM

Michaela Hamill | Fr. | P | Lynn, Mass.

Hamill is a first-time All-CCC selection. In her rookie campaign, a team-high 17 appearances in the circle has translated into an 8-1 record with a team-leading four shoutouts, team-best 2.74 ERA, and one career save. Eight wins is also tied for the team-lead and seven complete-games in her 10 starts matches the team-high, including going the distance in each of her past six starts. Hamill is both second on the team in strikeouts (32) with a career-high five against Wentworth on April 8th, and with 69.0 total innings pitched.

Emily Sharpe | Jr. | C | South Glens Falls, N.Y.

Sharpe is a first-time All-CCC choice, as she has been a solid contribution at the plate and behind the dish for the Gulls with appearances in 22 of the team's 34 games. Sharpe is fourth on the team in hits (31) with seven doubles (tied for third-most on the team) and two home runs. Sharpe's 15 RBIs is also tied for the third-most on the team. Sharpe is currently on a 12-game hit streak (career-longest and team's longest this season) and has three games in this span tallying four hits apiece (most on the team). Defensively, in 82 total chances, Sharpe has made 70 putouts with 10 assists and just two errors for a .976 fielding percentage with one double play turned. She has also thrown out five of 18 potential base stealers for a .208 runners caught stealing average.

Julia McNeill | Sr. | OF | Smithtown, N.Y.

McNeill is a three-time All-CCC outfielder, with a pair of All-CCC Third Team honors in 2015 and 2016. In her final season donning the Blue & Green, McNeill paces the squad with 120 plate appearances in 32 games played. She is leading the team in hits (36) for the third straight year, including seven doubles, one triple, and a career-best two home runs this year. With 51 total bases, she leads the team. Her two home runs both came in the fourth inning of Game 2 against Eastern Nazarene on Friday, April 21st, making her just the 12th student-athlete in NCAA Division III Softball history to accomplish the feat of homering twice in the same frame and it was the first occurrence since the 2012 season. McNeill has also scored a team-high 25 runs, with 15 RBIs (tied for third on the team), and is tied for the team lead with 12 stolen bases on the year to go alongside 12 walks and nine sacrifice hits (both second-most on the team). Defensively, McNeill is having her best career statistical year in the field, boasting a 1.000 fielding percentage by making 38 putouts with five assists and one double play in 43 total chances in right field.

ALL-CCC THIRD TEAM

Hayley Arduini | So. | OF | Southington, Conn.

Arduini is now a two-time All-CCC recipient, as she landed on the All-CCC First Team as a designated player last season. Arduini is second on the team with 23 RBIs and fourth on the team in runs scored (13), as she has clubbed a team-leading three home runs, including her second career grand slam, at Wentworth on April 8th in Boston, Mass. Arduini drove in five runs in that second inning of Game 1 against the Leopards, marking the first time in at least this decade that an Endicott student-athlete registered five RBIs in the same inning. Arduini also has a team-best six games this season recording multiple RBIs. Defensively, she has made 11 putouts with six assists and two errors in 19 total chances for an .895 fielding percentage playing mostly left field.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament after posting a 20-14 overall record and 11-7 ledger in CCC play. Endicott will travel to Newport, R.I. on Saturday, April 29th to face the winner of No. 5 University of New England/No. 8 Gordon in Game 3 at a time to be determined. Top-seeded Salve Regina and second-seeded Western New England will host the double-elimination bracket this weekend, with Salve Regina hosting the entirety of the following weekend beginning on Friday, May 5th. The CCC Championship game is slated for Saturday, May 6th. The winner of the CCC Tournament will earn the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA DIII Softball Championship Tournament.
