CHICOPEE, MA, - Elms College junior middle blocker Patrick Boyajian (Tolland, CT) recorded a team-high 12 kills and nine digs, but senior middle hitter Jeremy Fontaine (Belchertown, MA) knocked down a match-high 17 kills to pace No. 10 Endicott College to a 3-1 (30-22, 30-22, 23-30, 30-18) win over the Blazers in Tuesday night's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division match at Berchmans Hall.
The Gulls, ranked 10th nationally in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll, won for the fourth time in their last five matches to improve to 17-7 overall, 11-3 NECVA New England.
Elms College lost its second straight match to fall to 3-15 overall, 3-13 NECVA New England.
Fontaine was also solid at the net, as he recorded five total blocks. Sophomore opposite Eddie Marchand (Wakefield, RI) added 13 kills and senior setter Russ Friedland (Mansfield, CT) dished out a match-high 42 assists in the victory.
For the Blazers in the loss, senior setter James Angelos (Wilbraham, MA) handed out 20 assists in his final collegiate home match, sophomore outside hitter Brian Cunniff (Pittsfield, MA) had six total blocks.
Elms College freshman outside hitter Brendan Ellis (Chelmsford, MA), who currently ranks fifth nationally in Division III in service ace percentage, recorded a match-high five services aces.
The Blazers return to NECVA New England Division play on Friday, March 25 at Mount Ida College. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
