BEVERLY, Mass. - The Gulls finished third out of 12 teams in the Endicott College "March Mania" Invitational, going 3-1 over the weekend. Today the Gulls fell to SUNY New Paltz, 3-1 in the Gold Bracket semifinals and then rallied to defeat D'Youville College 3-1 to claim their highest finish ever at third.
Against 10th ranked SUNY New Paltz, the Gulls had three players finish with double digit kill performances. Jeremy Fontaine led the team with 20, while Eddie Marchand picked up 13 and Mike Coflesky was nearly unstoppable with 12 kills on 18 error-free swings. Brandon Ecker picked up 16 digs while Eric Hunter and Fontaine picked up 11 and 10 respectively.
Versus 13th ranked D'Youville, Fontaine hammered down 23 kills while Marchand and Coflesky contributed 13 and 11 respectively. Russ Friedland handed out 42 assists. George Chapell and Marchand each contributed three aces and Fontaine picked up 6 blocks.
The Gulls will return to action on Tuesday at 7:00 PM, when they will host Lasell College in a NECVA New England match.
