Endicott opened its 2004 season against DI Sacred Heart University and was downed 0-3 in three very close games 22-30, 31-33, 26-30. Sophomore Lloyd Douglass was the offensive spark for the Gulls as he hit .400% (10k-2e/20att).
The Gulls started strong in the first game going point for point up to 14 before the Pioneers pulled away to win 30-22. EC came to the court with much better momentum which they used to almost take the second game 31-33. The third game was back and forth with SHU getting a couple key blocks to close out the match. Endicott's Jeremy Fontaine was the kill leader with 14 followed by senior Brandon Ecker with eleven.
Defensively, Eric Hunter spent a greater part of the third game digging SHU's Michael Gardner's cross-court hits and collected 13 for the match. Ecker dug six and received 29 serves.
The Gulls will see its first DIII teams on Saturday as they travel to Steven's Tech (Hoboken, NJ) to face last season's NECVA Champion's Steven's Tech and New York University.
