Playoff push continues, Gulls defeat Scots

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College men’s tennis team tightened its grip on a spot in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Playoffs as the Gulls defeated cross-town rival Gordon College on Friday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The Gulls climb back to .500 at 8-8 overall and 5-5 in the TCCC while Gordon falls to 8-11 overall and 3-7 in league games.

Endicott was able to take two of the three doubles matches to start the day as \#Dan Murray\# (Coventry, R.I.) and \#Devon Locke\# (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) picked up an 8-1 win over Gary Gaudio and Carl Quinion at No. 1 doubles. \#Mike D’Ambra\# (Barrington, R.I.) and \#Olivier Joggi\# (Stoneham, Mass.) grabbed the other win at No. 2 doubles while Gordon’s Eric Musser and Andrew Van Rheenen picked up the Fighting Scots only doubles win over \#Scott Kitchen\# (Norwell, Mass.) and \#Porter Williams\# (Norwalk, Conn.), by a score of 8-4.

The Gulls added four more wins in singles play to notch the 6-3 victory over Gordon. \#Dan Murray\#, \#Mike D’Ambra\# and \#Porter Williams\# cruised to straight-set victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. \#Olivier Joggi\# picked up the final point for the Gulls with his 6-2, 6-4 win over Andrew Van Rheenen to complete the win. Gordon’s Carl Quinon and Evan Williamson both needed a tie break to defeat their opponents as Endicott’s Locke fell to Quinon, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5), while Williamson defeated \#Scott Kitchen\# 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2).

The Blue and Green return to action on Saturday when the Gulls host Regis College in the regular season finale for Endicott at 1:00 p.m. Gordon wraps up its 2010 campaign when the Fighting Scots take on Roger Williams University on Saturday as well, also at 1:00 p.m.
