Endicott notches nail-biting win over WNEC

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College opened its The Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule with a come-from-behind, 5-4, win over TCCC newcomer Western New England College on Tuesday afternoon in Beverly, Massachusetts. With the win, Endicott moves to 4-2 overall (1-0 TCCC) while the Golden Bears dip to 3-3 and 0-1 in the conference.

Western New England swung its way to a quick 2-0 lead in the doubles contests as Mike Jones (Stone Ridge, N.Y.) and partner Brian Relihan (Orange, Conn.) narrowly defeated Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.), 9-8. The visitor's Alex Boutin (Bristol, Conn.) and Ryan Turner (Yorkville, Ill.) cruised to an 8-4 win, padding WNEC's early advantage.

The Gulls' Marc Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.) got the Endicott momentum rolling as the pair rallied to an 8-6 win, sparking an EC onslaught. From there, the Gulls rattled off consecutive singles victories from Schoen and Murray to take a 3-2 lead.

The Golden Bears evened the score as Jason Lee (Scarsdale, N.Y.) downed former TCCC Rookie of the Week Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands), 6-1, 6-3. Scott Teller regained the lead for the Blue and Green as he snuck past Mike Jones, 7-6, 6-1. Brian Relihan once again brought the points back to even as he slammed his way to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Maloney. Gabriel Moraga (Marlborough, Mass.), playing out the No. 6 spot, fought his way to a match-winning, 6-2, 6-1 win over Ryan Turner to help secure the Endicott victory.

The Gulls will carry their 4-2 record across the town lines tomorrow afternoon as the Blue and Green travel to North Shore rival Salem State on Wednesday. Match time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
