Evan Couchot Claims United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Honors

UNITED SOCCER COACHES SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott senior forward Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Men's NCAA Division III Scholar All-America First Team, as announced by the organization earlier today. By virtue of earning Scholar All-America honors, Couchot also received United Soccer Coaches Men's NCAA Division III Scholar All-East Region First Team accolades earlier this week.

To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must be nominated by his head coach and meet the following criteria: (1) Have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his career; (2) Start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., all-conference) or contributions to the success of his team; (3) Plays for a current United Soccer Coaches College Services member institution; (4) Be a junior or above in athletic standing at the current institution and be in his second year at the current institution if a transfer student.

Couchot is now the second Scholar All-America in men's soccer program history joining his brother Conner Couchot '17 M'18 (Mason, Ohio) on the list. C. Couchot accomplished the feat in 2018 when he received Scholar All-America Third Team honors.

As for E. Couchot's academic and athletic career, E. Couchot currently sports a 3.70 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a biology & biotechnology major at Endicott, is a multiple Dean's List honoree and a member of the Endicott Scholars Program. E. Couchot's internship experience is highlighted by his time at Prospective Research, Inc. from January 2017 to August 2017. E. Couchot completed extensive work with varying fermentation conditions and also developed a new form of liquid bioassay to greatly increase company productivity in the field of early antibiotic discovery.

For his efforts in the classroom over his career, E. Couchot was named the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Senior Scholar-Athlete and was selected to the 2019 College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Second Team this past season.

The senior forward has also earned CCC Academic All-Conference honors twice, with a third one likely on the way later this academic year, and claimed three CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team accolades.

On the pitch, E. Couchot was a star for the Gulls, recently completing one of the best individual seasons in program history.

The 2019 CCC Offensive Player of the Year and All-CCC First Teamer led Endicott in both goals (23) and points (50). Nationally, E. Couchot ranked third in goals per game (1.21), third in points per game (2.63), fourth in goals (23), and sixth in total points (50). The senior forward also set single-season records for points (50), points per game (2.63), goals (23), goals per game (1.21), and made penalty kicks (8). In addition to his single-season records, E. Couchot finished his Endicott career as the all-time leader in points (133), points per game (1.80), goals (60), goals per game (0.81), and game-winning goals (14).

Meanwhile, along with claiming every academic and athletic conference honor he was eligible for this season, E. Couchot was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-New England First Team and to its All-America Third Team. By doing so, E. Couchot became the only student-athlete in Endicott Athletics history to receive the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete award, academic All-America honors, and athletic All-America accolades in the same season. He also is the first CCC men's soccer student-athlete to ever accomplish this feat and fourth overall in the conference's storied history joining Eric Cirella (Salve Regina, Baseball), Travis Brown (Western New England, Men's Lacrosse), and Grace Kucharski (Western New England, Women's Volleyball) on the list.

Student-athletes on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at the Baltimore Convention Center in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
