Men’s Ice Hockey Extends Winning Streak Versus Western New England, 5-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's ice hockey team defeated Western New England University by a 5-0 score on Saturday afternoon at Raymond J. Bourque Arena to push its winning streak to six straight games.

With the win, Endicott is 6-2-2 overall on the season and 5-2-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action, while the loss pushed the Golden Bears to 4-6-1 overall, and 2-5-1 in conference play.

In the first, the Gulls scored a pair of late goals exactly one minute apart (16:56 | 17:56) to take a 2-0 lead and never looked back. Jack Musil (Hull, England) put Endicott on the scoreboard first when he cleaned up a shot by Carter Horwitz (Tustin, Calif.) that bounced off the kick plate directly in front of the net for his fourth of the season.

Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.) then made it 2-0 one minute later with a quick transition goal that was buried from the slot via assists from Thomas Daniels (St. Louis, Mo.) and Tommy Besinger (Milton, Mass.).

Endicott junior goaltender Kevin Aldridge (Birmingham, Mich.) did his job the rest of the way holding Western New England scoreless on 30 saves to move to 5-2-2 on the season (fifth career shutout).

Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) recorded a season-high 51 saves in the loss (4-6-1).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 3-0-0 in the all-time series versus Western New England
  • Musil and Besinger also scored in the second at 6:16 and 19:11, respectively, for their fifth and sixth tallies of the year. Musil has now scored two goals in back-to-back games.
  • Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) added his second goal of the season at 13:35 of the third.
  • Ryan Dougherty (Sterling Heights, Mich.) blocked a team-high four shots in the win.
  • John Carricato (Santa Clarita, Calif.) won a game-high 10 faceoffs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Tyler Hines (North Haven, Conn.) blocked a game-high six shots in the loss.
  • Connor Eckenrod (Edensburg, Pa.) and Matt Smethurst (Rexford, N.Y.) tied for the team-high in face-off wins with eight apiece.

Endicott (5-2-2, 5-2-1 CCC) hosts Salem State University in non-conference action on Saturday, December 10 at 1:40 p.m. Western New England (4-6-1, 2-5-1 CCC) takes on Assumption College at home next Thursday, December 8 at 7:10 p.m.
