BEVERLY, Mass. - Despite a late charge from the Gulls that saw the team almost overcome a 13 stroke deficit, Endicott finished as runner-up in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship on Monday. Sophomore Nicholas Grimbilas (Strafford, N.H.) led the rally for Endicott and earned medalist honors for his efforts in the two-day CCC Championship event that was hosted at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club.

CCC rival Western New England took the title with a final team score of 621, five strokes better than Endicott's 626. Nichols (634) and Roger Williams (647) rounded out the top four, ahead of UNE, Wentworth, Suffolk and Gordon.

After day one, Endicott sat in fourth place as WNE posted a combined 303, while Roger Williams and Nichols posted rounds of 311 and 312. The Gulls finished the opening round with a score of 313, setting up the dramatic finish on Monday. While the severe winds would see every other team post higher scores on day two, the Gulls actually fired an identical 313 to finish in second with a score of 626, just five strokes behind WNE's 621.

Grimbilas' opening round of 76 was bested by his round of 73 on Monday, the lowest round of all golfers on Monday, and tied for the low round in the tournament. The sophomore's medalist honor in the CCC Championship is Endicott's first since the 2015-16 championship, and is the fifth medalist honor overall in program history in the conference championship dating back to 2004-05.

Finishing tied for sixth with identical two-day totals of 157 were freshman twins Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) and Kyle Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.). Frank posted rounds of 80-77, while Kyle finished with rounds of 77-80. Jack Bushee (Bennington, Vt.) 163 (80-83) and Ronan Lucey (Bow, N.H.) 167 (83-84) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls.
